The area around The Five Star Nambiti Hills Private Game Lodge is steeped in the most remarkable history! It is the centre of the historic Anglo-Boer War, during which there was bloody conflict between the Boer and Brit.
During the Historic Battlefields Adventure Weekend which is to be held at Nambiti Hills Private Game Lodge, Ken Gillings - retired businessman, soldier, renowned historian and acclaimed battlefield guide, will conduct a guided tour of the battlefields bringing in the concept of how battlefield blunders can benefit business. Ken has been conducting battlefields tours for over 40 years and has written extensively on South African military history.
October 1899 marked the beginning of the Anglo-Boer War and Ladysmith was to be a key point in the struggle for Natal. No fewer than five battles were fought in Gen Sir Redvers Buller’s attempts to relieve the town -

Several battles were fought prior to and during the 118 day Siege of Ladysmith. One of the most famous was fought adjacent to The Nambiti Hills Private Game Lodge, at Elandslaagte on the 21st October 1899, when a classic conventional manoeuvre executed by Col Ian Hamilton resulted in a staggering defeat for the Boers and the death of their impetuous commander, Gen Jan Kock. |
